The end is sooo close

I haven't blogged in a while due to the nice weather and the long weekend. I'm going to try to get back into a rhythm again but I got to admit the nicer the weather is the harder it is to blog.

On the health front, Child1 does not have an infected finger. In case I didn't mention it the child closed the door on the thumb turning the thumb a pretty black. Pictures might make the squeemish ill so I won't put people through it. We decided to go to the doctor when a gymnastics session was haulted. The doctor poked and pulled on the thumb but concluded that the thumb was healing properly. The nail will probably fall off but we can deal with that as long as the thumb doesn't get infected.

We spent the long weekend at our home away from home. We couldn't have asked for better weather and we had a great time with family. Some conversations from Auntie (not Annie or Heidi) should have been rated NC17 but we had some great boat rides and ate great food. Everyone came home tanned and looking forward to our Summer Fiesta!

Thanks to the great weekend we have had a tough time finishing our work before the long siesta! I know where not alone in our struggles! Public education should really reflect Labor Day to Memorial Day schedule (boy would that be nice)!

I really tried to stay away from work and the laptop over the weekend but oh my god is my inbox full and my RSS feeds are bursting at the seams. So if you don't hear from me over the next day or two tell Parent2 to make sure I'm awake and not bug-eyed. The weekend is almost here!

CamMad Roundup

I know it has been almost a week since my last blog entry. What a ride it has been since the last entry. I nearly scratched myself to death (reaction to the medication I was on).

On the CamMad front, while I was gone to do the family thing the rest of the family was enjoying some quality bonding time with movies, pizza, and brownies. I came home to Child1 with a very black and blue thumb as the car door got in the way of the thumb. OUCH! Fortunately nothing is broken. Child2 continues to do the thing that that child does so well.

We are anxiously getting through the week. At the end of the week the family is going to pack up the car and travel to the family oasis point. I spent last weekend helping to get the oasis point ready for the summer months. It looks like the weather will be better this time versus last year when it rained, was cold, and the fact I fell into the lake with all of my clothes on and cell phone in my pocket. Oh the memories.

Sorry for the Readers' Digest version but there is so much to do before this weekend...

I've hit the wall

You know the analogy about marathoners, at some point during a race they may face a self-imposed wall that their bodies refuse to cooperate. The only solution is for those who are mentally strong is to ignore their body and push through it. I feel like I've hit the wall. Being sick I've been just getting by but I know that I need to push through it to enjoy the fruits of the labor. Oh well.

Not much has been going in CamMad-land. We survived the rainstorm that reminded people of Bibical terms. We were very lucky compared to some people I know. Less than a month to go and CamMad starts their Summer Siesta!

Happy Birthday Sheepish!

I'm alive really

This entry will not really focus on CamMad as much as myself.

As some of you know I wasn't feel well over the weekend. I tried to push through it at work and made it through Wednesday. On Wednesday I realized that I wasn't getting any better not any worse mind you. I made the decision to spend a day and get some real rest and hopefully get better. For those of you who know me putting myself first is a big deal. I went to Child1's family party (more details later) and had to go back to school to make a presentation before I could really relax. On my way to the school my left eye started pussing and getting red (can you say conjunctivitis). I knew my next step was the doctor's office. I told my principal about where I was physically and left him no choice but to handle it himself.

The next morning I got up and drove myself to the clinic at my doctor's office and 10 minutes later I found out I had the magic trifecta: conjunctivis, ear infection, chest and sinus infection. When I got home and took my medication (can you say mega horse-size pills) I realized that I was really sick. After Parent2 lectured me about staying home another day and me trying to stubborn I realized that I did need to stay home and really be better for Monday. My blogging is taking a lot longer to get ideas from the brain to the fingers so I take a hiatus until I can be more productive.

Child1 finally had the last birthday party with my side of the family. I'm sure the other side of the family will do something but not in a party form. It was great seeing EAR (even though I stayed far-far-away). Child1 loved every gift and enjoyed the pizza and cake!

Until I'm healthier...

Down for the count

Why is it that when you need to get stuff done is it that you are most likely to be sick? That has happened to me. I was in denial yesterday when the scratchy throat started last night. Throughout the night of sleep I kept waking up and the aches started. By no means is it as bad as Sheepish has had it with the Monkey Pox but it is not fun. Thankfully Parent2 hasn't crucified me for being sick when we're trying to get ready for tomorrow's big day. CamMad I'm sure will help fill some of the void and I will defintely do as much as I can until my body says "STOP!"

Ice Cream Rings and Innocence

I know that I've been a little slow in the blogging update but I'm hoping to do a better job this weekend and beyond. Today's topic: Ice Cream Rings and Innocence. With this wonderfull weather we've had recently CamMad has been indulging in more and more ice cream. Even though there is not a good local ice cream parlor around our next of the woods we've been checking out some of my old haunts (the ones that are still in business). CamMad has experienced the joys of soft-serve ice cream. I forget how synomimus soft-serve ice cream is with summertime. I got to admit I miss some of the old haunts that have closed their ice cream operations (Foley's Ice Cream and Len Libby's Ice Cream by Higgins Beach).

Anyway, CamMad, like most children leave a tell-tale sign that they've enjoyed ice cream: the ring around their mouth. It can be quite cute and often funny. I've caught my mom sneaking ice cream to CamMad because the ice cream ring couldn't be cleaned up fast enough before I could pick them up. Children always wonder how we know they had ice cream. Sometimes their innocence is refreshing in this mean-cut throat world.

For a lot of people there are some great memories that are tied together with ice cream. For those faithful readers out there (beyond Camadsmom and Sheepish are there any?) what were some of your favorite ice cream memories growing up? I will start with mine.

In college I was like an actor who is looking to make it big, struggling. One of the favorite things my friends and I would do in the spring semester before finals would be going to Chadwick's Ice Cream in Lexington and attempting the Belly Buster. The Belly Buster is 10 scoops of ice cream with 5 different toppings, whipped cream, nuts, sprinkles, and all of the other accessories that you could imagine for an ice cream sundae. When people ordered the Bustah it came out on a stretcher with siren sounds making a scene for all to see. The challenge: Eat it all and get it for free. We would tempt to the porcellon goddess over ice cream so we would split it but someone in the shoppe thought they could be the one to do it and get their name and picture on the Wall of Fame. Most of the time they failed by not finishing the Bustah or we would hear the cry "Bathroom Cleanup Please!" Unfortunately the store is no closed so those Bentley college students will have to find somewhere else to get their ice cream fix but it will always be one of those lifelong memories with the concerts at Avalon or all you eat Pizza or Pasta from Papa Geno's. Ah, the good old days.

Okay folks your turn...

Another Day Another Year Older

Since I last blogged CamMad celebrated two birthdays. The first one was on Wednesday when my brother and his wife welcomed their new edition to the world. Welcome E.A.R. (my sister-in-law does not like the nickname but for blogging purposes it works great), the world is not such a scary place. The second one was Child1. Yesterday we spent the day making it as special as we could. Given the excitement over E.A.R. we are now able to spread out the birthday into next week. Yes, Sheepish there was cake and more cake this weekend when the friends come over for the party. If you are feeling better from the Monkey Pox we can try to save you some cake.

One of the negative things that living in a rural setting is that gorgeous spring days like the ones we've had lately is the black flies and mosquitos. Lately this has been true in a way that I haven't seen in a long long time. We're able to spend 15-20 minutes before the bugs literary carry us back inside. Hopefully the next few weeks things will clear out (as much as they do in a rural setting).

This weekend we don't have a whole lot going on (there's an understatement). We need to get the house ready for Child1's friend party and then following the party we are entertaining Parent2 relatives, What were we thinking. In the mean time I need to keep the whole momentum called work responsibilities going, as tough as it is during this nice weather.

Hopefully I can also start knocking off some of my work readings that I got pilled up. I'm hoping not to have to take too much with me during my summer vacation vacation.

Blogging Hiatus Recap

In some ways I wanted to blog over the last few days as there as been some good material out there but I needed a break from work (with all of the garbage related to it) and technology. I threw myself into this weekend's Patriots draft (it showed how much I miss football season) and family activities. I am going to try to get back into the swing of things with this blog.

When I last blogged you heard how thankful I was for CamMad being a part of my life. Well I still am thankful but there lives have made me a little coo-koo. Thursday night we went to Child1's Author's Night. It was great seeing so many people coming to school for a non-sports related event. We were able to witness the literature Child1 has created over the course of the year. I've been able to watch the growth over time but Parent2 was able to see the same growth over time that I've been able to watch.

Friday was an early release at work and Child1 tagged along with me. At first we had a hard time transitioning but Child1 was able to make the transition and had a good afternoon. We were able to leave work early enough that we were able to fit an ice-cream run by Scary Amy's place before picking up Child2. I got to admit the ice cream tasted really good. I'm not sure if it tasted good due to the actual taste or the timing of the ice cream and the relief it provided. When we got home we fired up the grill and had a nice dinner with our neighbor across the street.

Saturday provided a day which we were able to play, clean, and be happy. As a family we got to sleep in a little and do some of our household chores. By the time the weather warmed up we were able to play outside until the bugs (blackflies) were able to pick us up and carry us back into the house.

Child1 and I were able to go out during nap time and go to the local driving range to play mini-putt. This was the first experience that Child1 had beyond the putting area at Dick's Sporting Goods. By no means is Child1 going to be next Tiger Woods or Michelle Wie but we had fun. In fact, each of us made a hole in one and we had a great time. We were the only ones on the course we could take our time and I could teach the little one some things about putting. It was very nice to spend some quality time showing a little bit of what I like to do as a hobby.

Sunday rolled around and another great weather day. We had made arrangements to take CamMad's cousin for a little while as the Aunt and Uncle get some rest and finish projects before the baby pops out and greets everyone. We took the kiddies to Fort Williams and their playground which was designed for kids their age. While the kids played with Parent2 I went to go birthday shopping for Child1.

This just in from 24-Chloe used her taser on a drunk man. Pretty funny.

Back to the playdate...When I got back to pick them up the park was full of people enjoying the weather and Casco Bay looked gorgeous with the ocean water crashing into the rocks. You could see the kites flying, people walking or riding their bikes, soccer games at the fields, and CamMad having the time of their life playing. Everyone was having a great time.

By the time we got home the day was 2/3rds complete and I didn't even have time to start my work but I got to admit I didn't really have the drive to get the work done (not that I have it now). I knew what the night time was going to provide and it wasn't pretty. The night time brought on insomnia and true desire for summer hibernation.

Today was a day which was like any other first Monday of the month with one exception. Today was the first Yankees vs. Red Sox showdown. More importantly in CamMad's circles to the game was the return of Johnny "True Greedy Idiot" Damon to Boston. Everyone was excited to see the Fenway faithfull's reaction and it did not disappoint.

Until tomorrow or the end of the Red Sox game...

Rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated

Despite what you may have heard on the Internet or not read about on this blog the rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated. I will provide a recap of the latest happenings of CamMad later on tonight either when 24 is on or after the show.
